The Nova Sociedade (lit. New Society) was a set of political, economic, and social ideals determined by Jorge Almeida to be the keystones of an Almeidaist society. It was the first work by Almeida to outline core principles applied in Commonwealth governance today: collective leadership, collegiality, universal access to sustenance, housing, and education, and workplace democracy. It was written over a three-year period and published in 1983. The Nova Sociedade was inspired by a visit to an automotive plant in Saya; Almeida, who had worked in factories his whole life, was shocked by the small amount of labor required to complete a car as a result of factory automation.
